Got laughed at for bringing a digital level to a union hall meeting

Last month at the local 48 hall in Portland, I showed the guys my new digital level and three old-timers said it was cheating. Has anyone else had to defend using newer tools against the 'pencil and bubble' crowd?

Isnt that just how every generation acts about tools they didnt grow up using?

@vera514 - I remember feeling the same way when GPS first came out, but after trying it on a road trip I realized it actually saved me a lot of stress. For me, it helped to just give the new tool a fair shot for a few weeks before making up my mind. Most of the time, you find it works fine once you get past the learning curve.

Doesn't the learning curve itself prove the point that some tools just aren't intuitive enough to be worth the hassle? I'd rather spend that few weeks getting better at something I already understand than fighting with a new gadget.
