Why does nobody talk about what happens when your only laptop dies in Medellin at 11pm
My ThinkPad screen just went black on me last Tuesday around 11pm while I was finishing a client call, and I had a deadline at 9am the next morning. I panicked and walked 20 minutes to a 24 hour cafe in El Poblado hoping someone there had a charger that fit, which was dumb because it clearly was not a power issue. A guy at the next table let me use his MacBook for two hours so I could at least email the client and push the deadline to Friday. Now I'm stuck between dropping $900 on a replacement here or flying to Miami next month where it's cheaper, and I keep flip flopping. Do you all carry a backup machine, or is that just me being paranoid?
Man that is rough, a dead laptop at 11pm with a 9am deadline sounds like my actual nightmare. The fact that some random guy let you use his MacBook for two hours says a lot about the people there though, honestly kinda sweet. I don't carry a backup laptop but I do keep my old one in a drawer even though the battery is shot, just in case mine dies. For what it's worth, if you can survive a few weeks without it, Miami might be worth the wait for the price difference.
