A waitress in Medellin made me question why I chase the perfect wifi
She said she sees us nomads checking upload speeds like they're life or death while she runs her whole booking system off a $15 phone plan, and it hit me that I've spent the last 8 months planning city moves around 100 Mbps when I could've just built my days around the local cafecito schedule instead, so what's one thing you all gave up caring about after living abroad for a while?

...and honestly that's the part that stuck with me the most, the way she talked about her phone like it was just a tool and not a lifeline. I read something a while back about how people in older wifi zones actually end up spending more time talking to strangers and finding better spots to hang out, and I think that's the real trade we're all missing. I gave up caring about having a backup sim card and a million different charging banks, that was the first thing to go. Now I just look for a place that has a plug near a window and someone who knows where the good coffee is at, and somehow the work still gets done. The speed test thing is just a trap to keep you staring at your screen instead of looking around.
