That gallery submission rejection made me rethink my whole color palette
I was at a local art walk in Portland last month, staring at this one piece that had a super muddy green I hated, and the artist told me she mixed it from pthalo and raw umber. It hit me that I've been using the same six colors for two years without ever questioning them. Has anyone else completely changed their go-to palette after seeing how someone else handles a color you always avoided?

Correct me if I'm wrong but raw umber is actually greenish already.

A buddy of mine bought raw umber for a portrait and spent an hour mixing in yellow trying to fix the color before he realized it already had a green tint to it. @ryantorres is dead right that stuff comes out of the tube looking like swamp mud. We still give him crap about that painting session.
