Is a finished piece art or just a demo? That 40-layer PSD has me split

I see people posting final images only, no process shots, and others dumping every sketch. I finished a 40-layer piece last Tuesday and half the comments asked for the wireframe. Which side actually showcases the work, the polished result or the messy steps?
