Found out how much time some digital artists spend on a single piece

I was watching a stream from an artist named Loish last week. She mentioned that her detailed environment pieces can take over 80 hours to finish. That blew my mind. I always figured a week or two was a long project. She showed a timelapse of one piece, and the amount of layering and texture work was insane. It made me appreciate the patience in this field a lot more. How long does a typical finished piece take you guys?

Ever tried tracking your own hours on a big piece?

Used to think tracking hours was just busywork for managers. Then I tried it myself on a big home project last year, and Gavinwells is right, the numbers really do surprise you. It forces you to see the gap between what you planned and what actually happened. I found I was terrible at guessing how long things would take, always too optimistic. Now I track time on anything that feels like a real commitment, just for my own understanding.

Oh man, this hits home! I started tracking hours on personal projects and it totally changed how I see time. It's wild how we guess at where our days go versus the cold, hard numbers. Makes you way more honest about what's actually a quick task and what eats your whole afternoon.
