A gallery curator in Denver told me my line art looked flat and I reworked my whole brush setup
I posted my ink style dragon piece in an online showcase last fall and a curator from a Denver gallery left a comment saying my line weight never changed so the forms read flat. I spent two weeks studying how pressure sensitivity works in Procreate and switched to a tapered 6B brush for shadows and a thin hard brush for edges. Has anyone else changed their whole workflow after one piece of feedback like that?
Did you laugh or cry first when you read that comment? Because I would have done both. My version of this was when a guy at a show told me my shading looked like a smudge on a windshield and I spent a whole weekend rebuilding my layer setup. Two weeks on pressure curves sounds about right, that stuff eats your life once you start. The funny part is the piece probably looked fine to everyone else and now you can never unsee the flat thing. At least you got a better brush out of it.
