Why does nobody talk about teaching your niece to change a fuel filter?

My little niece wanted to help in the garage last Sunday, so I showed her the basics on my pickup. It was messy, but her curiosity made me remember why I love this trade (even the grimy parts).

Honestly, that's the best way to do it. Showing a kid the messy, real work behind simple stuff is huge. My nephew helps me sometimes, and we started with just spark plugs and checking tire pressure. Now he can do a full oil change. It's less about the filter itself and more about giving them that confidence to get their hands dirty.

Read an article once about a dad who taught his daughter to change her own bike tire. She started with just holding the tools, then moved to loosening bolts. By the end, she was doing it alone and beaming. That's the kind of confidence you're talking about. It sticks with them way longer than any lecture. Lets them know they can fix things, not just call for help.

Those grease stains on her shirt are just early badges of honor.
