That kid's comment about DEF in the shop chat got me thinking

Was refilling the DEF tank on a 2021 Freightliner this morning and one of the younger guys said 'why don't we just delete it all, saves money and hassle.' I get the appeal, I really do, but I've seen three trucks in the last two years get flagged at ports in Savannah and Long Beach for emissions tampering. That's thousands in fines plus the downtime waiting on parts to put it back. I told him about a guy I know who spent 14 months fighting a violation that started with a simple delete kit. He went quiet after that. Anyone else have customers who don't realize the payload side of this equation?

So does that young guy actually understand what happens when CA or GA runs the plate and sees the VIN flagged for a missing DPF? Because that's not just a port problem, that's every weigh station from here to the 5. The real question is whether he's ever had to explain to a dispatcher why a load is sitting for a week over a $200 part.
