That 3406E injector cup finally got me after 12 years
Been turning wrenches on Cats since 2011, and last month I had a 3406E come in with a bad miss at idle. I chased fuel pressure, checked the ECM, even swapped a sensor that was reading fine. Turns out the number 5 injector cup had a hairline crack that only showed when the engine got hot. Took me three days and about 40 bucks of dye to find it. Any of you guys just pull the cups when you see a miss on a 3406, or do you still chase the cheap stuff first?

Three days for a hairline crack that only showed up hot? Man, that's brutal, I'd have pulled the whole rail by day two.
