Stray shop cat proved my messy bench theory right

That cat finding a loose wire in my clutter after I'd looked for hours convinced me a messy workbench actually helps you spot problems faster.

Your messy bench theory reminds me of my friend's chaotic tool shed. His kitten kept batting at a jumble of cords on the floor, and he finally saw a frayed one he'd walked past for days. Why is it that pets notice what we overlook in our own clutter? He said the random mess just highlights things that are out of place once something draws your eye to it. Now he doesn't stress about tidying up right away, because a little disorder might show him what's wrong.

Totally see that pattern everywhere. Like how you only notice the weird stain on your garage floor when sunlight hits it at a certain angle. Or find a missing paperclip in a crammed desk drawer because it reflects light differently. Our brains just filter out the familiar clutter until something new, like a pet or a sunbeam, forces a fresh look.

No way you had a frayed wire just laying in your shed for days. That's actually kinda scary, man. One spark near that and you could've had a real bad time. Maybe the mess does help, but maybe also get that kitten a safety whistle. Pets really do see the world different, zeroed in on the weird little moving things we tune out.
