Dropped $340 on a cheap injector puller kit, cost me a whole job in Boise
Bought a no name injector puller setup off a tool truck guy passing through Boise, $340, and the threaded rod bent on the third cylinder I touched. The tip slipped and chewed up the bore, so instead of a two hour pull I was pulling the head and eating the labor on a job that was supposed to pay $1,800. The foreman told me straight up, "you just bought yourself a weekend," and he was right. If you are looking at one of those kits with the thin rod, don't, save up for the real thing. Anyone got a puller brand that actually holds up past a handful of stubborn injectors?
Slipped and chewed up the bore" sounds less like the tool's fault and more like the tip walked because it wasn't seated right. A bent rod on cylinder three is what happens when that injector is carbon welded in there, and no rod on earth is pulling a stuck one without heat soak and a little patience first. I've seen guys blame a $340 kit when the real problem was they went straight to the wrench instead of soaking it. Cheap pullers are junk, sure, but a good one bends too if you're yanking on a dead injector like it owes you money.
