Chipped oil pan gaskets twice in one month, finally bought the good sealant

Blew $180 on two chipped oil pan gaskets last month because I kept using the cheap RTV from the auto parts store. Third time I grabbed the $40 permatex high temp stuff and torqued the pan to spec with a torque wrench instead of feel. No leaks for 2 weeks now. Anyone else cheap out on sealant and regret it later?
