My sister watched me knit for 10 seconds and asked why I hold the yarn like a crab
She was right, I had the tension wrapped around three fingers like I was bracing for a tackle. So I switched to just looping it over my pointer finger, and after about two weeks of dropped stitches my scarf rows finally came out even. I had been doing it the hard way for almost a year without knowing. Now the thing actually moves fast enough that I finished a hat on the bus to Albany. Anyone else get corrected on their grip and have it mess up their hands for a bit?
Switching grips after a year is just trading one bad habit for another, since your hands already built muscle memory around the crab claw. Give it a few more months and your pointer finger will be the one complaining.
