Wasted $80 on a habit tracker app before I realized a sticky note worked better

Bought Habitica premium for a year thinking the gamification would get me going. After three months I was ignoring the daily quests and the pixel cat stopped motivating me. Switched to a single sticky note on my bathroom mirror with 4 checkboxes. Havent missed a day in 6 weeks. Anyone else overpay for something fancy just to end up with the simple version?

The gamification stuff works until it doesn't, and then you're just paying to ignore a notification. I did the same thing with a budget app that had all these charts and goals, but a notebook with three columns was way easier to keep up with. Sometimes the simple version wins because there's no barrier between you and the task.

Is it just me or does this apply to almost everything now? I feel like we keep overcomplicating stuff with apps and gadgets when the old way was already fine.
