Finally stopped using retractable leashes after a guy at the dog park in Tulsa showed me his scar

Nah, I'm gonna push back a little... I've been using a retractable leash for like 5 years now and never had a problem. You just gotta use some common sense and not let your dog run wild with it.

And yeah that's exactly the kind of story that made me switch too. I never got a scar myself but I had a close call at the park when another dog's leash wrapped around my leg and tightened up before I could even react. The worst part is those retractable leashes give you zero control when a dog decides to bolt, and that thin cord can cut right through skin like butter. I tell everyone now to just get a good old 6 foot nylon leash, it's safer for you and your dog and you actually have some leverage. Plus you don't have to deal with that plastic handle breaking after a few months anyway.

Honestly, the plastic handle breaking is such a pain too. I had one snap on me mid-walk once and the whole thing just retracted back into the handle, leaving me holding a useless piece of plastic while my dog just took off. Never again, stick with the nylon ones.
