Used to drive solo, now I carpool with a stranger from my building

For like 5 years I did the 45 minute drive to work alone, just me and the radio. Then last March my car went into the shop for a week and I had to take the bus, ended up chatting with a guy who lives two floors down. He does the same route but leaves 15 minutes earlier, so now we split gas and take turns driving his old Honda. It's weird because I actually look forward to the ride now, we talk about dumb stuff like podcasts and what we're cooking. Has anyone else gotten lucky with a random carpool match, or is this just a one in a million thing?
