The airport WiFi trap that made me ditch auto-connect for good

Missed a client deadline in Denver because my phone hopped onto 'FreeAirportWiFi' without asking, and a fake login page snagged my email. Now I keep WiFi off until I manually verify the network name at the gate, and I use a separate browser for any sign-in. Anyone else had a close call with spoofed hotspots in airports or coffee shops?
