Setting up a Raspberry Pi for my model train layout opened my eyes to network security

Honestly, I was just trying to control the lights and signals with a simple web interface. Tbh, I didn't know that leaving default passwords on the Pi could let anyone access my home network. Ngl, I learned to set up a firewall and use strong, unique passwords for all devices. Now my hobby project is way safer from online threats.

Don't forget physical access to the Pi itself.

Where do you guys stash yours? I hid mine on a shelf inside my furnace closet, figured nobody ever looks in there.

Yeah the physical access thing is key. What do you do if someone actually finds the pi though, like a cleaner or a guest poking around? Hiding it is one step, but if they unplug it or take the sd card you're still screwed. I have mine in a locked project box bolted to a shelf, feels a bit extra but at least it's not just sitting there. How do you guys deal with that risk?

True lol, hiding the Pi itself is half the battle. Mine's tucked in a closet behind some old board games, way harder to find than any password.
