Back in 2018 a sysadmin in Austin told me to never reuse passwords

I was working at a startup in Austin and the senior sysadmin, Mike, kept telling me to use a password manager. I thought I was fine since my passwords were all different but similar. Then our team got hit by a credential stuffing attack because someone reused their email password on a forum. After that I finally set up Bitwarden and it's saved me multiple times.

Hard disagree honestly. Password managers are a single point of failure and I have seen them backfire badly. A buddy of mine used LastPass back in 2022 and when they got hacked, his entire vault of passwords was compromised in one go. He lost access to his Amazon seller account because the password was changed by the attacker before he could act. Using different but memorable passwords for high value accounts is smarter than trusting some cloud service with EVERYTHING.

Oh man, Mike knew what he was talking about for sure. Honestly the thing people don't realize is that password reuse isn't just about your work accounts. If you use the same password for your streaming service and your bank, a data breach at the streaming site can drain your savings in minutes. Ngl I've seen people lose whole crypto wallets because they reused a password from a sketchy forum. Tbh using a manager feels annoying at first but it beats the panic of getting locked out of everything forever.
