TIL my whole pitch about our 'military grade' encryption was doing more harm than good
I run the marketing side for a small security vendor here in Austin and for the first two years I leaned hard on scary words. Big red banners, countdown timers, the works, because I figured fear sells. Then last March a prospect on a demo call said flat out, 'I don't even know what half this means, I just want to know if it stops phishing emails.' That one line hit me. So I pulled our old landing pages and rewrote them with plain language, swapped 'zero trust architecture' for 'we check every login' and cut the jargon by maybe 70%. Our demo requests went from around 40 a month to 75 by June. I used to think sounding technical made us look legit, now I think it just made buyers feel dumb. Curious if anyone else here has made that same switch, did your sales team push back on it at all?
