Hot take: hitting 500 vinyl records felt like a flex until I counted how much I spent
I just passed 500 records in my collection last week and was hyped, but then I did the math on what I paid and it's pushing $8,000. Is the milestone about quantity or the money you sunk into it, or does that cheapen the whole hobby for you?

$8k is just a number unless you're broke or selling them.

Don't you think that $8k also means something for people who are just trying to protect what they have? Like, if you're not rich but not broke, that's still a lot of money to spend on a pair of shoes you might only wear a few times. It's not just about having the cash to buy them, it's about whether you feel comfortable dropping that much on something that could get scuffed up at a party. I've seen people sell expensive stuff because they needed the money for something more important, not because they were broke. And sometimes it's just about the principle of not wanting to pay that much for a brand name. So yeah, $8k can mean a lot more than just a number.
