Guy at the swap meet in Reno told me my coin holders were hurting my own coins, I made a change the next day
I keep a small set of old silver coins in a zip binder with those clear plastic pages, and I figured that was fine for 8 years. A vendor at the Reno swap meet last month watched me slide a 1921 Morgan dollar into a pocket and asked if I ever checked for PVC damage. I said no, and he pulled out a jeweler's loupe and showed me the green gunk creeping along the rim of a mercury dime I had. He said the soft plastic pages sweat over time and that holders with PVC will eat a coin's surface. I went home and ordered 50 non-PVC flips and a box of cotton gloves for $23 total. Three of my coins had already dulled in spots and I can't undo that. Anyone else here had PVC sneak up on a set they thought was safe?
