Found 300 vinyl records in a dumpster behind a thrift store in Detroit last week

I was driving home from work and saw boxes stacked next to a dumpster behind a thrift shop. Figured I'd check before the garbage truck came. Turned out to be a whole collection of jazz and blues records from the 60s and 70s. Most are in decent shape, maybe 40 have scratches that make them skip. The thrift store guy said someone dropped them off two hours before and they didn't have room on the shelf. I'm sitting on maybe 30 albums worth selling online, the rest I'll keep or give away. Has anyone else scored a collection like this out of the blue?

Man, "sitting on maybe 30 albums worth selling" is the understatement of the year. Detroit jazz and blues from the 60s? That's the jackpot, even with the scratched ones. I'd check those skips first though, sometimes a bad scratch hides a rare gem like a first pressing. You basically just found a whole retirement fund in a dumpster, that's wild.

My uncle had a stack of old 78s in his basement for YEARS and it turned out one was a super rare delta blues recording worth enough to put his kid through community college. Makes you wonder what else is just sitting in people's basements collecting dust.
