A stranger's assumption about my postcard wall made me rethink the whole display
I was at a flea market in Portland last month, and this guy saw my table of 200+ vintage postcards I swap out monthly. He asked if I was a flipper trying to resell them at a markup. I told him no, I just like the stories people write on the back. He walked off shaking his head. It got me thinking about how collectors defend their why all the time. Do you ever get tired of explaining your collection's value to people who just see stuff?
Have you ever watched someone just completely miss the point of something you love? My friend has this whole shelf of vintage lunchboxes, not for resale or anything, just because she digs the old cartoon art. Some guy at a garage sale told her she was wasting her money and should just buy new ones from Target. She didn't even bother explaining, just said "okay" and moved on. Tbh it's wild how people think everything has to have a practical purpose or a profit attached.
