A stranger at a flea market fixed how I sort my postcards
I've been collecting vintage postcards for about 5 years, mostly sorting them by city or year. Last month an old guy at a flea market in Portland saw my binder and said "you're missing the point, sort by the message on the back." At first I thought he was nuts, but he showed me how a 1920s postcard with a mundane grocery list tells more about daily life than any pretty skyline. Now I've got a separate box for ones with handwriting about train delays, rent prices, and family squabbles. Has anyone else switched their organizing system after a random encounter and found stuff they'd overlooked for years?
