PSA: My writing group's big clash over hopeful vs. grim climate prompts
Last night, we had a huge argument about prompts for environmental stories! Some say prompts should always lead to happy endings to motivate readers, while others think dark prompts allow for more honest and creative tales. We used a prompt about a forest coming back to life, and the stories were totally split. What do you all think works better for sparking good writing?

Believed only hard truths pushed good writing until I saw how hope can twist a plot. Now I lean toward prompts that leave room for either.

Love this @kim_johnson51, hope really does change how stories unfold.

That bit about hope twisting a plot really got me. I was all about hard truths for years, convinced nothing else made writing good. Then I read this story where hope kept you guessing, and it flipped my whole view. Hope adds this layer where you're not sure if things will work out, and that tension is everything. So now I'm with you on prompts that leave room for either outcome. It just makes for more honest writing, even if it's messy.
