Wind speed forecasts keep lying to me, so now I bring my own gauge

After three separate jobs near Cheyenne last month got sketchy because the forecast said 12 mph and we were getting hit with 25 mph gusts, I started carrying a handheld anemometer in my bag. It cost me about 60 bucks and it takes two seconds to check before I send the hook up. The difference is I can catch the microbursts coming off the buildings that the weather app smooths over. I also learned to watch the flag on the site shack, if that thing is snapping straight out, the forecast is already wrong. Now I do my own readings every 15 minutes once we pass half my rated load. Anyone else ditch the forecasts and rely on their own readings, or is that overkill for most crews?
