The old timer who made me question my whole swing setup

Back in Tulsa, this retired guy watched me line up a pick and just said, 'you're fighting the load, not lifting it.' He showed me how he eases off the boom before the final lift, and my next 3 picks felt completely different. Anyone else pick up a habit from watching someone work that changed how you operate?

Wait, didn't he mean you're fighting the weight of the load itself, not the load's setup? Because the boom easing trick sounds more like giving yourself slack so the machine does the work for you, not the opposite. Either way, that's a neat little tip to have in your back pocket.
