Old foreman's one critique on my rigging still sticks with me

Back in 2012 on a job in Gary, Indiana, my foreman watched me set up a tandem lift and just said 'you're choking that hook block like you're scared of it.' He showed me how to seat the slings with a little slack so they self-align under load, and I've done it that way ever since. Anyone else carry a trick from a cranky old timer that you still use on every lift?
