Hot take: the oiler's "two more inches" comment on the radio stuck with me all week
Last Tuesday I was setting a 40 foot steel beam at a jobsite over in Tacoma, and my oiler clicks the radio and says "you got two more inches, take it slow." I swung it over, landed it clean, and then he says "see, you never trust me on the first one." Thing is, he was right, and I've been doing this 11 years. I caught myself second guessing his call three more times that shift, and every time he was dead on with the distance. The man has been spotting for 25 years and he can read a load like I read a tape measure. So now I'm wondering if I've been leaning on my own eyes too much when he's up there watching my blind side. Any of you ever get humbled by your spotter like that?
