The librarian in Sacramento told me to skip the bookcase and stack on the floor, and it actually looks great
I stopped by a used book shop in Sacramento last month and the woman at the counter saw me eyeing a $140 oak bookcase. She said to pass on it and just stack my paperbacks in low piles along the wall instead, so the lamp light hits the spines. I thought she was nuts but I did it with about 60 books and the corner looks way warmer than my old shelf ever did. Now I'm wondering if I should swap out the lamp too, since the shade is kind of yellow and washes the covers out. What do you all use for small stacks like this, anything under the bottom row to keep them from sliding?
