Just realized my grandma's old quilt saved my rug in a paint spill

Last Saturday I was touching up the baseboards in my bedroom with a $8 sample pot of eggshell paint and knocked the whole thing over. Before I could panic, I grabbed the frayed quilt she gave me 20 years ago and soaked up most of it, turns out old cotton works better than paper towels. Anyone else keep a sacrificial blanket around for disasters like this?

That old quilt is basically a hero now. My version of that is a stack of ratty beach towels I keep in the garage for car stuff, but one time I used them to sop up a whole bottle of red wine that exploded out of a grocery bag in the trunk. They smelled like vinegar for a month but damn if they didn't save my carpet from looking like a crime scene. Grandma knew what she was doing with that thick cotton, those old fabrics just drink liquid up like crazy.
