Knew I was bad at fishing in Stardew but didn't realize how bad until I checked my stats

I popped open the achievement tracker last night after about 60 hours in my current farm and saw I had only caught like 12 different fish total. I thought I was doing okay just selling whatever I accidentally snagged, but the game literally tracks how many of each you've caught. Turns out I've spent most of my time ignoring the ocean and just farming parsnips. Has anyone else completely ignored a whole game mechanic for that long and then felt silly when they noticed?

Parsnips don't sell for much anyway, you missed the real money in fishing.

Fishing's just as overlooked 'til you figure out the rhythm of it.

Changed my mind completely actually... I used to grind parsnips every single spring without even thinking about it. Figured fishing was just a waste of time since the first few fish barely gave me any gold. But then I stayed up trying to catch a catfish during the rain and suddenly I was making 300g off one good day on the river. That's way more than waiting a whole week for parsnips to grow... now I keep my rod on me always.
