TIL adding a splash of pickle juice to my tuna salad actually works
My grandma in Dayton did this for years and I always figured it was just a weird old habit, but last Tuesday I was out of lemon and tried it, and it fixed the whole bowl. What's the strangest pantry swap that turned out to be real for you?
The part about being out of lemon and trying it as a fix is what gets me. Was it a "well, this is all I have" moment or did you already figure it would work because of your grandma? I'm curious if the pickle juice changed the taste in a way you didn't expect, or if it just did the same job the lemon would have done. And did you use the juice from a dill pickle or a sweet one? That seems like it could go really wrong depending on which jar you grabbed.
