That IKEA table I ignored for years ended my desk clutter problem
I popped into the IKEA in St. Paul last weekend just to grab some shelves and walked by the KALLAX unit. Always thought it was just for living rooms but I saw one paired with a simple desk top and it clicked. Those cube shelves give you so much hidden storage for cords and papers without taking up floor space. I finally got my monitor risers and notebooks tucked away in the cubes and now my desk surface is basically clear. Has anyone else repurposed a bookshelf into a desk organizer that actually worked?

Blew my mind too @blair_martin... can't believe I wasted years on a rat's nest of cables.

Wait, so you're telling me I've been tripping over power strips and losing pens in the black hole of my desk for years when I could've just stuffed it all into a cube shelf? That's genius and also kind of makes me mad I didn't think of it first. I guess my old filing cabinet is officially a glorified plant stand now.

Wait, did you just say you were using an actual filing cabinet this whole time? Those things are basically paperweights in 2024 unless you're hoarding tax returns from the 90s. I've got two of them in my garage collecting spiders and I've been too lazy to drag them to the curb. Honestly, cube shelves are the unsung heroes of desk organization, they hide all your cable chaos and still look clean. Your filing cabinet as a plant stand is honestly a power move though, better than just letting it sit there being useless.
