That $90 standing desk converter from Facebook Marketplace turned my tiny nook into a real workspace
I have a small apartment in Portland and my study nook is basically a 4 foot corner by a window, so I figured a standing desk was impossible. Dropped $90 on a used Varidesk converter off Marketplace back in March and it changed how I use the space way more than I expected. The thing is heavy and ugly and takes up half the desk when it is raised, but my back stopped aching after lunch and I actually focus better standing for the first hour of the morning. Now I am wondering if I should have just saved up for a real sit stand desk instead of this clunky riser. Anyone here made the jump from a converter to a full desk, and was it actually better for a small nook?
Did you actually measure the floor space you'd free up with a real desk, though? In my case the nook is so tight that a full sit stand would have eaten the whole corner, so the ugly riser ended up being the better call. Your back feeling better is the whole point anyway.
