PSA: clear the desk to 40 square inches of empty space and everything else gets easier
I measured my desk last month out of boredom and found only about 15 square inches of clear space near the keyboard. So I set a rule: 40 square inches stay empty, no exceptions, not even the mail pile. Two weeks in, I get through a stack of invoices in half the time it used to take. A cleared patch sounds silly until your elbows stop hitting a mug and a charger block. What is the smallest empty space you keep on your desk, and did you have to fight for it?
