My cheap clamp-on gooseneck lamp kept sliding off my desk, so I tried museum putty

I was so tired of my lamp sliding off the edge every time I adjusted it, especially during late night study sessions. I grabbed a small tub of museum putty from the art supply store for 6 bucks and pressed a tiny bit under the clamp. Has anyone else used this stuff for desk stuff, or is there a better trick for keeping things stuck?

Ray nailed it with that monitor riser trick. Museum putty is basically desk magic.

Wait, so the monitor riser thing works because the putty grips the bottom edge or the whole surface? Because my lamp clamp has these little rubber pads that always shift, and I keep thinking the putty might just squish out the sides if I clamp it too tight.

Museum putty is genius. I used a tiny bit on my monitor riser, now it doesn't budge even when I bump the desk.
