My cold brew came out perfect after 4 tries, here's what clicked
I spent all last week trying to nail a cold brew concentrate at home and kept getting this weird sour taste. On Thursday I finally realized I was grinding the beans too fine, like espresso fine, and it was over extracting in the 18 hours I left it. Switched to a coarser grind, like breadcrumb texture, and used a 1:8 ratio with filtered tap water from my kitchen sink in Austin. Let it steep for exactly 16 hours on the counter, not the fridge, and it came out so smooth and chocolatey. I added a splash of oat milk and a tiny pinch of salt, and honestly it beat the $6 cup from the shop down the street. Has anyone else had a weird aha moment with their brew ratio or steep time, or is it just me? I'm curious if anyone uses a timer or just guesses like I used to.
