Finally caved and bought a decent burr grinder. $60 well spent.

I used to just buy pre-ground bags from the grocery store and wondered why my pour overs tasted like ash. Picked up a used Baratza Encore off Facebook for $60 and the difference in flavor is wild. Anyone else put off upgrading and regret waiting?

Man, honestly I think people blow this whole grinder thing way out of proportion. I've been using a $10 blade grinder I got at a thrift store for like 5 years now and my coffee tastes just fine. Yeah it's a little uneven but you just shake it while it runs and it's basically the same thing. Most of the taste comes from the beans themselves and the water temp anyway. Spending $60 on a used grinder seems like a lot for something that just makes beans smaller.

Aw man, that's wild. Ngl, I had a buddy who swore by his $20 Mr. Coffee blade grinder for years. But then he got a used Baratza for like sixty bucks at a garage sale, and @ryantorres I'm telling you the difference was night and day. He brought some over one morning and my wife asked what changed because it tasted so much smoother. He couldn't stop talking about how it finally got the grind consistent without all that shaking and noise.
