Guy at the scales said "you can't haul a mini excavator on a car hauler, son" and I've been thinking about it all week
I was at the Pilot in Waco and watched him turn away a guy with a 7,000 lb mini ex strapped to an old flatbed trailer that was rated for 5,500, and honestly I've been second guessing my own tie down setup ever since, has anyone else had a scale house pull them for trailer ratings?
Watched a guy get shut down at a scale in Arkansas last summer for the same thing. Trailer was tagged for 7k and he had a skid steer plus bucket on it, probably 9k loaded. DOT guy didn't even blink, just told him to park it and call someone. I used to figure the trailer will hold it if it rolls, who cares about the sticker. Changed my mind after seeing that. The fine alone was over a grand and they made him leave the machine sit there overnight. Now I check my trailer tag before every load and keep some room under the rating. Not worth losing a day or a machine over.
