Shoutout to my coworker who thinks traffic lights are rigged to slow us down
We had a heated chat in the break room about our commute times. He insists the city tweaks the signals on purpose to cause jams and collect more ticket money. I told him it's probably just old equipment and bad timing. Now our lunch group is split on this idea. Anyone else run into this kind of debate with people you know?

Still sounds like a wild conspiracy theory to me.

Old equipment and bad timing sounds right, but what if the people setting the lights never drive during rush hour? They just don't get how it screws up traffic.

The intersection at Maple and 5th actually has great timing during evening rush. Their system uses traffic cameras and loop sensors buried in the pavement to count cars. The light changes based on real-time flow, not just a preset clock. I've seen it hold green longer when the left turn lane backs up. They even adjust it for when the high school lets out.
