NYC tunnel traffic report corrected my whole route after 2 years
A guy on a trucker forum pointed out I was avoiding the Midtown tunnel during rush hour for no reason, said the data showed it's faster than the bridge most days. I checked the numbers for a month and he was right, now I shave 40 minutes off my run every time I'm in Manhattan. Anyone else had a stranger on here fix a route you were dead set on?

Hate when you find out you've been wasting time for YEARS on some route you were so sure about. Good on that trucker for actually checking the numbers instead of just going with the old rule of thumb. I had a similar thing happen with a bakery delivery route once, some random person on a local forum pointed out the side streets were faster than the main drag even during peak hours. Felt dumb at first but then just glad someone bothered to say something. Makes you wonder how many other little things you're doing wrong without knowing it.

Good on that trucker for actually checking the numbers" got me thinking. My whole life I drove to my sister's place using a highway that always had construction. Then one day I followed a delivery van down this sketchy back road and it cut 15 minutes off. Turns out the GPS kept routing me the "fast" way because it didn't update for the lane closures that had been there for two years. Now I just wing it based on traffic apps and gut feelings. Makes me wonder what else I'm just doing out of habit.
