Tried a magnesium float on a garage slab after years of just using a steel one

The finish was way tighter with less water bleed, especially on the south side where the sun hit it. Anyone have a go-to brand for those, or is a generic okay?

Eh, I've had the opposite happen. My generic one works just fine on hot days.

That bit about the south side finish being tighter really hits home. It's wild how much the small details in a tool can change the whole job. I see it all the time with cheap gym gear versus stuff that's actually made right. For floats, I'd skip the generic box store ones and find a contractor supply place, even their house brand is usually built for real work.

Not sure it's that serious, reesel50. A generic float from the hardware store has always done the job for me.
