That $80 thermal paste I bought was a complete joke
I fell for the hype and bought a tube of that liquid metal stuff for my CPU last month. Thought it would drop my temps by 10 degrees or something fancy. Instead it spilled over the edge and killed my motherboard - $250 down the drain. Anyone else have a horror story with fancy thermal compounds?

Wait, is this actually a common thing or are we just hearing the loud horror stories, you know? I mean, I've been using the same $10 tube of Noctua paste for like 5 years and it's never done me wrong. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people gotta be real careful with how much they put on, not just what brand it is. If you follow the pea-sized dot method, you can't really mess up that bad, right?

Broooo the liquid metal stuff is straight up Russian roulette. I watched a buddy of mine try to put it on his laptop CPU and it dripped onto the pins, fried the whole laptop in seconds. These companies make it sound like magic but for normal builds regular paste is totally fine. I've been using the same $8 tube of Arctic MX-4 for like three years now and my temps are within like 2 degrees of what those $80 pastes claim.
