Can we talk about how a client's IT guy taught me to label PSU cables with painter's tape?
Was on a call in Phoenix doing a PSU swap on a workstation when the in house IT guy said 'you'll thank me later' and wrapped a strip of blue painter's tape around each modular cable with a Sharpie label. Took him maybe 90 seconds and saved me from plugging the CPU 8 pin into the PCIe slot later that night when I was fried. Now I keep a roll in my bag and I've used it on 4 jobs since. Anyone else got a dumb simple trick a client showed you that you still use?

That painter's tape thing goes way further than just PSU cables. I had a guy in Tempe show me to wrap a strip on each end of every cable in a rack with matching numbers, so when you trace a run you just look for the pair. Same 90 seconds of work, saves you from yanking the wrong cable out of a live switch. The tape peels off clean too, which regular labels never do once they sit in a hot closet for a year. I started doing it on network drops too, blue tape for data, green for voice, and now my bag has three rolls rolling around loose. The best part is you can write on it with any pen you grab, no label maker needed.
