Overheard a stranger on the train say something that stuck with me

I was on the 7:15 into the city last week and this guy next to me was on the phone. He said 'people think they need a plan, but what they really need is a direction.' I kept thinking about it the whole ride. Like I spend so much time trying to figure out every step when maybe I just need to pick a lane and go. Has anyone else heard a random conversation that actually made you rethink something?

@clairen85 that's the thing though, sometimes the right words just hit you at the right moment. I heard some lady at a coffee shop say "you can't steer a parked car" and it genuinely made me rethink my whole approach to job hunting. Like damn, I was just sitting there waiting for the perfect opportunity instead of just moving in any direction.

Man my buddy heard something similar at a bar once. Some old dude just said "everyone's so worried about getting it right they forget to actually live" and it messed with his head for like a week.

Whoa wait, a whole week? That's wild. I mean, I get it hitting hard but a full week of being messed up over some random bar wisdom? That's kind of amazing honestly. I feel like if I heard that I'd think about it for like an hour tops and then forget while ordering another drink. But your buddy must have really been in a weird headspace to let it stick that long. Props to him for actually sitting with it though, most people would just shrug it off.
