Just realized the guy at the Morgan City yard who told me to skip the pre-dive walkaround was dead wrong
We were getting ready for a 60 foot pipeline inspection south of Berwick. Old timer there said walking the gear was a waste of time, just suit up and get wet. I did it his way for 4 months.
Then my umbilical got a cut in it I never saw. 40 feet down it started arcing on a steel riser. Got lucky, surfaced with a burn on my shoulder and a story.
Now I do a full walkaround every single time, takes me 6 minutes. The old guy still calls me slow. I don't care.
What's the dumb shortcut someone talked you into that you had to learn the hard way?
