Hit 500 logged dives in the Gulf last Thursday and I honestly thought the number was wrong
I was doing a routine inspection job on a platform leg out of Fourchon and my supervisor asked me to pull my log for a client audit. I counted it twice because I figured there was no way. 500 exactly, after 11 years in the water. The funny part is I remember almost none of the number itself, but I can still tell you which dive was number 300 because the current was so bad I puked in my hat on the way down. Does anyone else keep a paper log anymore or has everyone gone digital? I've been using the same soggy notebook since 2013 and I'm scared to lose it.
Man, the puking in your hat thing got me because I've been there and it's such a weird memory to hold onto when the actual number is just a blur. It's funny how the bad dives stick with you more than the good ones, like your brain files away the rough stuff on purpose. I still keep a paper log too, beat up spiral notebook that's been wet and dried out so many times the pages are basically glued together. My wife keeps telling me to take pictures of every page before it falls apart and I keep putting it off, which is dumb because if I lose that thing I lose 8 years of proof. You should really scan yours, even just phone pics, because a client audit is one thing but losing the thing you wrote your whole career in would hurt way worse. Congrats on 500 though, that's a lot of time in the water.
